Enhanced Primary Reference Time Clock (ePRTC)

Microchip enhanced Primary Reference Time Clock

Product Information

Telecom and mobile operators have benefited from the simplicity of deployment that GNSS provides as a network timing reference. As a result, GNSS has been deployed broadly from the core to the edge of the network. However, concerns on over-reliance on GPS and other GNSS systems for critical network services such as mobile edge timing led Microchip to consider the use of Caesium atomic clocks to support core network timing infrastructure for LTE-A and 5G TDD deployments. This work formed the basis of the ITU-T G.8282.1 specification for an Enhanced Primary Reference Time Clock (ePRTC) which is now a standard.

ePRTC

Combining the world leading TimeProvider 4100 Primary Reference Time Clock (PRTC), Microchip’s core 5071A or TimeCesium atomic clocks, and the protection against GNSS jamming and spoofing of the BlueSky Firewall, together with the TimePictra Network Management and Monitoring System, Chronos can deliver core network timing sites that bring autonomy from GNSS to your timing network while maintaining the accuracy, reliability and scalability you require.

A Microchip ePRTC site can be deployed with one or more Caesium clock, supporting one or more clock domains delivering 30ns to UTC performance when locked, and the ability to hold to within 100ns of UTC should GNSS input be lost for fourteen days.

The Chronos difference

Chronos’ deployment of Microchip’s ePRTC solutions offer a solid base on which to build an autonomous, resilient timing network, whether in a telecoms network, or across data centres for financial and enterprise applications.
